The NO MORE Foundation launched a directory of global resources for victims of domestic violence this past March and partnered with the leader in providing similar resources in the U.S. and Canada, DomesticShelters.org, in a strategic and technical alliance to help ensure the new directory’s accessibility to any survivor, in any location throughout the world.
“The biggest impetus is DomesticShelters.org’s expertise. It has been such a successful, robust website that is a critical resource for many survivors. Seeing the way that the information is updated, seeing the amount of traffic to the site, DomesticShelters.org has really cemented itself as an essential resource in the U.S.,” said NO MORE Communications Manager Laura Peek. “It just made sense to team up and work together on this. It’s two organizations that really care about survivors teaming up and using their expertise to make each other better.”
NO MORE has 40 chapters around the world. It collaborated with UN Women and World Bank Group and undertook an extensive research and vetting process to discover and verify potential domestic violence programs. The directory offers listings in more than 200 countries and the information can be accessed in over 100 languages, and every three months the directory is audited and updated.
“The collaboration was serendipitous because for a number of years we were having internal discussions about creating a global directory ourselves,” added DomesticShelters.org Vice President of Digital Services Ashley Rumschlag. “Funding and resources can be limited in the domestic violence field, so we all decided it was better to pool efforts and work together.”
Both innovative organizations have a knack for landmark efforts. NO MORE was created as a unifying symbol and is well-known for being the most successful large-scale domestic violence and sexual assault public awareness campaign in history. DomesticShelters.org, the idea of its host organization Theresa’s Fund, is among the most relied upon domestic violence resources anywhere and an incubator for important new projects like the Purple Ribbon Awards.
